Oshawa Zoo is one of our family favourites. It is by far the most interactive and cleanest Zoo we have been too. The pens are large and the animals seem well taken care of. There are always staff cleaning and replenishing water and food. They allow visitors to buy pop corn ( i recommend bringing a bucket for your kids) and you can spend hours feeding a variety of domestics and exotic animals. Where else in Canada can you pet a Kangaroo? Many of the animals at the Zoo were abandoned and nursed back to health by the staff. You can tell they really car about their well being. They also have a food truck but you can also bring your own picnic. Con: port o potty
The Killman zoo started as an animal sanctuary in 1979. As the sanctuary grew a lot of work was done to the property that the current zoo continues to sit on. It was opened to the public in 1987. This is one of the most unique Zoo's we've been to. No where else can you get this close to Large cats. $22 for an adult and $14 for a child. There are no flush toilets so keep that in mind. The terrain is quite uneven so it may not be great for those using a walker, crutches etc. It is a great experience for the entire family.
The Toronto Zoo is a staple for most people loving in and around the GTA. While no one likes to see animals in cages it is a fact of life unfortunately. The Toronto Zoo is a Centre of excellence in conservation, sustainability, animal care, and science. We find the best days to go are in the spring or fall as the animals seem to be move lively. The do however have a great very large splash pad to cool off on hot summer days. Bring your own lunch as the lines for food can be enormous.
Elmvale Jungle Zoo has been around for over 50 years. The original site was on 2 acres, exhibiting a few animals with mostly reptiles. In the 70's the zoo was purchased and has expanded to over 30 acres. With winding shaded trails you can enjoy an up close and personal experience from animals around the world. By far the best thing about this place is hand feeding the Giraffe's. For $10 a bucket you can get some food to feed the animals ( you can't bring in your own)
